Ecclesiastes 7

English: A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.

Malayalam: നല്ല പേർ സുഗന്ധതൈലത്തെക്കാളും മരണദിവസം ജനനദിവസത്തെക്കാളും ഉത്തമം.

English: It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.

Malayalam: വിരുന്നുവീട്ടിൽ പോകുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ വിലാപഭവനത്തിൽ പോകുന്നതു നല്ലതു; അതല്ലോ സകലമനുഷ്യരുടെയും അവസാനം; ജീവച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവൻ അതു ഹൃദയത്തിൽ കരുതിക്കൊള്ളും.

English: Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.

Malayalam: ചിരിയെക്കാൾ വ്യസനം നല്ലതു മുഖം വാടിയിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഹൃദയം സുഖമായിരിക്കും.

English: The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of delight.

Malayalam: ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ ഹൃദയം വിലാപഭവനത്തിൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നു; മൂഢന്മാരുടെ ഹൃദയമോ സന്തോഷഭവനത്തിലത്രേ.

English: It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.

Malayalam: മൂഢന്റെ ഗീതം കേൾക്കുന്നതിനെക്കാൾ ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ശാസന കേൾക്കുന്നതു മനുഷ്യന്നു നല്ലതു.

English: For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity.

Malayalam: മൂഢന്റെ ചിരി കലത്തിന്റെ കീഴെ കത്തുന്ന മുള്ളിന്റെ പൊടുപൊടുപ്പുപോലെ ആകുന്നു; അതും മായ അത്രേ.

English: Surely oppression makes a wise man mad; and a gift destroys the heart.

Malayalam: കോഴ ജ്ഞാനിയെ പൊട്ടനാക്കുന്നു; കൈക്കൂലി ഹൃദയത്തെ കെടുത്തുകളയുന്നു.

English: Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

Malayalam: ഒരു കാര്യത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭത്തെക്കാൾ അതിന്റെ അവസാനം നല്ലതു; ഗർവ്വമാനസനെക്കാൾ ക്ഷമാമാനസൻ ശ്രേഷ്ഠൻ.

English: Be not hasty in your spirit to be angry: for anger rests in the bosom of fools.

Malayalam: നിന്റെ മനസ്സിൽ അത്ര വേഗം നീരസം ഉണ്ടാകരുതു; മൂഢന്മാരുടെ മാർവ്വിൽ അല്ലോ നീരസം വസിക്കുന്നതു.

English: Say not you, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? for you do not enquire wisely concerning this.

Malayalam: പണ്ടത്തേ കാലം ഇപ്പോഴത്തേതിനെക്കാൾ നന്നായിരുന്നതിന്റെ കാരണം എന്തു എന്നു നീ ചോദിക്കരുതു; നീ അങ്ങനെ ചോദിക്കുന്നതു ജ്ഞാനമല്ലല്ലോ.

English: Wisdom is good with an inheritance: and by it there is profit to them that see the sun.

Malayalam: ജ്ഞാനം ഒരു അവകാശംപോലെ നല്ലതു; സകലഭൂവാസികൾക്കും അതു ബഹുവിശേഷം.

English: For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom gives life to them that have it.

Malayalam: ജ്ഞാനം ഒരു ശരണം, ദ്രവ്യവും ഒരു ശരണം; ജ്ഞാനമോ ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ജീവനെ പാലിക്കുന്നു; ഇതത്രേ പരിജ്ഞാനത്തിന്റെ വിശേഷത.

English: Consider the work of God: for who can make that straight, which he has made crooked?

Malayalam: ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തിയെ നോക്കുക; അവൻ വളെച്ചതിനെ നേരെയാക്കുവാൻ ആർക്കു കഴിയും?

English: In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: God also has set the one opposite to the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.

Malayalam: സുഖകാലത്തു സുഖമായിരിക്ക; അനർത്ഥകാലത്തോ ചിന്തിച്ചുകൊൾക; മനുഷ്യൻ തന്റെ ശേഷം വരുവാനുള്ളതൊന്നും ആരാഞ്ഞറിയാതെയിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ദൈവം രണ്ടിനെയും ഉണ്ടാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

English: All things have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just man that perishes in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongs his life in his wickedness.

Malayalam: ഞാൻ എന്റെ മായാകാലത്തു ഇതൊക്കെയും കണ്ടു: തന്റെ നീതിയിൽ നശിച്ചുപോകുന്ന നീതിമാൻ ഉണ്ടു; തന്റെ ദുഷ്ടതയിൽ ദിർഘായുസ്സായിരിക്കുന്ന ദുഷ്ടനും ഉണ്ടു.

English: Be not righteous over much; neither make yourself over wise: why should you destroy yourself ?

Malayalam: അതിനീതിമാനായിരിക്കരുതു; അതിജ്ഞാനിയായിരിക്കയും അരുതു; നിന്നെ നീ എന്തിന്നു നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നു?

English: Be not over much wicked, neither be you foolish: why should you die before your time?

Malayalam: അതിദുഷ്ടനായിരിക്കരുതു; മൂഢനായിരിക്കയുമരുതു; കാലത്തിന്നു മുമ്പെ നീ എന്തിന്നു മരിക്കുന്നു?

English: It is good that you should take hold of this; yea, also from this withdraw not yours hand: for he that fears God shall come out of them all.

Malayalam: നീ ഇതു പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടാൽ കൊള്ളാം; അതിങ്കൽനിന്നു നിന്റെ കൈ വലിച്ചുകളയരുതു; ദൈവഭക്തൻ ഇവ എല്ലാറ്റിൽനിന്നും ഒഴിഞ്ഞുപോരും.

English: Wisdom strengthens the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city.

Malayalam: ഒരു പട്ടണത്തിൽ പത്തു ബലശാലികൾ ഉള്ളതിനെക്കാൾ ജ്ഞാനം ജ്ഞാനിക്കു അധികം ബലം.

English: For there is not a just man upon earth, that does good, and sins not.

Malayalam: പാപം ചെയ്യാതെ നന്മ മാത്രം ചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു നീതിമാനും ഭൂമിയിൽ ഇല്ല.

English: Also take no heed unto all words that are spoken; lest you hear your servant curse you:

Malayalam: പറഞ്ഞുകേൾക്കുന്ന സകലവാക്കിന്നും നീ ശ്രദ്ധകൊടുക്കരുതു; നിന്റെ ദാസൻ നിന്നെ ശപിക്കുന്നതു നീ കേൾക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു തന്നേ.

English: For oftentimes also yours own heart knows that you yourself likewise have cursed others.

Malayalam: നീയും പല പ്രാവശ്യ്‍വം മറ്റുള്ളവരെ ശപിച്ചപ്രകാരം നിനക്കു മനോബോധമുണ്ടല്ലോ.

English: All this have I proved by wisdom: I said, I will be wise; but it was far from me.

Malayalam: ഇതൊക്കെയും ഞാൻ ജ്ഞാനംകൊണ്ടു പരീക്ഷിച്ചുനോക്കി; ഞാൻ ജ്ഞാനം സമ്പാദിക്കുമെന്നു ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞു; എന്നാൽ അതു എനിക്കു ദൂരമായിരുന്നു.

English: That which is far off, and exceeding deep, who can find it out?

Malayalam: ഉള്ളതു ദൂരവും അത്യഗാധവും ആയിരിക്കുന്നു; അതു കണ്ടെത്തുവാൻ ആർക്കു കഴിയും?

English: I applied mine heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness and madness:

Malayalam: ഞാൻ തിരിഞ്ഞു, അറിവാനും പരിശോധിപ്പാനും ജ്ഞാനവും യുക്തിയും അന്വേഷിപ്പാനും ദുഷ്ടത ഭോഷത്വമെന്നും മൂഢത ഭ്രാന്തു എന്നും ഗ്രഹിപ്പാനും മനസ്സുവെച്ചു.

English: And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoso pleases God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.

Malayalam: മരണത്തെക്കാൾ കൈപ്പായിരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു കാര്യം ഞാൻ കണ്ടു: ഹൃദയത്തിൽ കണികളും വലകളും കയ്യിൽ പാശങ്ങളും ഉള്ള സ്ത്രീയെ തന്നേ; ദൈവത്തിന്നു പ്രസാദമുള്ളവൻ അവളെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞു രക്ഷപ്പെടും; പാപിയോ അവളാൽ പിടിപെടും.

English: Behold, this have I found, says the preacher, counting one by one, to find out the account:

Malayalam: കാര്യം അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ഒന്നോടൊന്നു ചേർത്തു പരിശോധിച്ചുനോക്കീട്ടു ഞാൻ ഇതാകുന്നു കണ്ടതു എന്നു സഭാ പ്രസംഗി പറയുന്നു:

English: Which yet my soul seeks, but I find not: one man among a thousand have I found; but a woman among all those have I not found.

Malayalam: ഞാൻ താല്പര്യമായി അന്വേഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നുവെങ്കിലും കണ്ടുകിട്ടാത്തതു: ആയിരംപേരിൽ ഒരു പുരുഷനെ ഞാൻ കണ്ടെത്തി എങ്കിലും ഇത്രയും പേരിൽ ഒരു സ്ത്രീയെ കണ്ടെത്തിയില്ല എന്നതത്രേ.

English: Lo, this only have I found, that God has made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.

Malayalam: ഒരു കാര്യം മാത്രം ഞാൻ കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു: ദൈവം മനുഷ്യനെ നേരുള്ളവനായി സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു; അവരോ അനേകം സൂത്രങ്ങളെ അന്വേഷിച്ചുവരുന്നു.
