Ecclesiastes 9

English: For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knows either love or hatred by all that is before them.

Malayalam: ഇതൊക്കെയും, നീതിമാന്മാരും ജ്ഞാനികളും അവരുടെ പ്രവൃത്തികളും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നു എന്നുള്ളതൊക്കെയും തന്നേ, ശോധനചെയ്‍വാൻ ഞാൻ മനസ്സുവെച്ചു; സ്നേഹമാകട്ടെ ദ്വേഷമാകട്ടെ ഒന്നും മനുഷ്യൻ അറിയുന്നില്ല; സർവ്വവും അവരുടെ മുമ്പിൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നു താനും.

English: All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrifices, and to him that sacrifices not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that swears, as he that fears an oath.

Malayalam: എല്ലാവർക്കും എല്ലാം ഒരുപോലെ സംഭവിക്കുന്നു; നീതിമാന്നും ദുഷ്ടന്നും നല്ലവന്നും നിർമ്മലന്നും മലിനന്നും യാഗം കഴിക്കുന്നവനും യാഗം കഴിക്കാത്തവന്നും ഒരേ ഗതി വരുന്നു; പാപിയും നല്ലവനും ആണ പേടിക്കുന്നവനും ആണയിടുന്നവനും ഒരുപോലെ ആകുന്നു.

English: This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

Malayalam: എല്ലാവർക്കും ഒരേഗതി വരുന്നു എന്നുള്ളതു സൂര്യന്റെ കീഴിൽ നടക്കുന്ന എല്ലാറ്റിലും ഒരു തിന്മയത്രേ; മനുഷ്യരുടെ ഹൃദയത്തിലും ദോഷം നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; ജീവപര്യന്തം അവരുടെ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ ഭ്രാന്തു ഉണ്ടു; അതിന്റെ ശേഷമോ അവർ മരിച്ചവരുടെ അടുക്കലേക്കു പോകുന്നു.

English: In order to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.

Malayalam: ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിൽ ഉള്ളവന്നൊക്കെയും പ്രത്യാശയുണ്ടു; ചത്ത സിംഹത്തെക്കാൾ ജീവനുള്ള നായ് നല്ലതല്ലോ.

English: For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

Malayalam: ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവർ തങ്ങൾ മരിക്കും എന്നറിയുന്നു; മരിച്ചവരോ ഒന്നും അറിയുന്നില്ല; മേലാൽ അവർക്കു ഒരു പ്രതിഫലവും ഇല്ല; അവരെ ഓർമ്മ വിട്ടുപോകുന്നുവല്ലോ.

English: Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.

Malayalam: അവരുടെ സ്നേഹവും ദ്വേഷവും അസൂയയും നശിച്ചുപോയി; സൂര്യന്നു കീഴെ നടക്കുന്ന യാതൊന്നിലും അവർക്കു ഇനി ഒരിക്കലും ഓഹരിയില്ല.

English: Go your way, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart; for God now accepts your works.

Malayalam: നീ ചെന്നു സന്തോഷത്തോടുകൂടെ അപ്പം തിന്നുക; ആനന്ദഹൃദയത്തോടെ വീഞ്ഞു കുടിക്ക ദൈവം നിന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തികളിൽ പ്രസാദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

English: Let your garments be always white; and let your head lack no ointment.

Malayalam: നിന്റെ വസ്ത്രം എല്ലായ്പോഴും വെള്ളയായിരിക്കട്ടെ; നിന്റെ തലയിൽ എണ്ണ കുറയാതിരിക്കട്ടെ.

English: Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of the life of your vanity, which he has given you under the sun, all the days of your vanity: for that is your portion in this life, and in your labour which you take under the sun.

Malayalam: സൂര്യന്നു കീഴെ അവൻ നിനക്കു നല്കിയിരിക്കുന്ന മായയായുള്ള ആയുഷ്കാലത്തൊക്കെയും നീ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്ന ഭാര്യയോടുകൂടെ മായയായുള്ള നിന്റെ ആയുഷ്കാലമെല്ലാം സുഖിച്ചുകൊൾക; അതല്ലോ ഈ ആയുസ്സിലും സൂര്യന്റെ കീഴിൽ നീ ചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രയത്നത്തിലും നിനക്കുള്ള ഓഹരി.

English: Whatsoever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, where you go.

Malayalam: ചെയ്‍വാൻ നിനക്കു സംഗതിവരുന്നതൊക്കെയും ശക്തിയോടെ ചെയ്ക; നീ ചെല്ലുന്ന പാതാളത്തിൽ പ്രവൃത്തിയോ സൂത്രമോ, അറിവോ, ജ്ഞാനമോ ഒന്നും ഇല്ല.

English: I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happens to them all.

Malayalam: പിന്നെയും ഞാൻ സൂര്യന്നു കീഴെ കണ്ടതു: വേഗതയുള്ളവർ ഓട്ടത്തിലും വീരന്മാർ യുദ്ധത്തിലും നേടുന്നില്ല; ജ്ഞാനികൾക്കു ആഹാരവും വിവേകികൾക്കു സമ്പത്തും സാമർത്ഥ്യമുള്ളവർക്കു പ്രീതിയും ലഭിക്കുന്നില്ല; അവർക്കൊക്കെയും കാലവും ഗതിയും അത്രേ ലഭിക്കുന്നതു.

English: For man also knows not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falls suddenly upon them.

Malayalam: മനുഷ്യൻ തന്റെ കാലം അറിയുന്നില്ലല്ലോ; വല്ലാത്ത വലയിൽ പിടിപെടുന്ന മത്സ്യങ്ങളെപ്പോലെയും കണിയിൽ അകപ്പെടുന്ന പക്ഷികളെപ്പോലെയും മനുഷ്യർ, പെട്ടെന്നു വന്നു കൂടുന്ന ദുഷ്കാലത്തു കണിയിൽ കുടുങ്ങിപ്പോകുന്നു.

English: This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me:

Malayalam: ഞാൻ സൂര്യന്നു കീഴെ ഇങ്ങനെയും ജ്ഞാനം കണ്ടു; അതു എനിക്കു വലുതായി തോന്നി;

English: There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it:

Malayalam: ചെറിയോരു പട്ടണം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അതിൽ മനുഷ്യർ ചുരുക്കമായിരുന്നു; വലിയോരു രാജാവു അതിന്റെ നേരെ വന്നു, അതിനെ നിരോധിച്ചു, അതിന്നെതിരെ വലിയ കൊത്തളങ്ങൾ പണിതു.

English: Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.

Malayalam: എന്നാൽ അവിടെ സാധുവായോരു ജ്ഞാനി പാർത്തിരുന്നു; അവൻ തന്റെ ജ്ഞാനത്താൽ പട്ടണത്തെ രക്ഷിച്ചു; എങ്കിലും ആ സാധുമനുഷ്യനെ ആരും ഓർത്തില്ല.

English: Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.

Malayalam: ജ്ഞാനം ബലത്തെക്കാൾ നല്ലതു തന്നേ, എങ്കിലും സാധുവിന്റെ ജ്ഞാനം തുച്ഛീകരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു; അവന്റെ വാക്കു ആരും കൂട്ടാക്കുന്നതുമില്ല എന്നു ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞു.

English: The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that rules among fools.

Malayalam: മൂഢന്മാരെ ഭരിക്കുന്നവന്റെ അട്ടഹാസത്തെക്കാൾ സാവധാനത്തിൽ പറയുന്ന ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ വചനങ്ങൾ നല്ലതു.

English: Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroys much good.

Malayalam: യുദ്ധായുധങ്ങളെക്കാളും ജ്ഞാനം നല്ലതു; എന്നാൽ ഒരൊറ്റ പാപി വളരെ നന്മ നശിപ്പിച്ചുകളയുന്നു.
